Our initial plan was to visit Key Biscayne, spending a night at anchor, and then head to Bimini. As always, things never go as planned. We ended up having to go shopping for provisions the morning we were suppose to head to Key Biscayne. We realized we were missing some items (Kais’s diapers) as we were putting things away on the boat and organizing. I had to go back to the Wal-Mart to purchase these additional items, while Maik got things finalized on Hatchi. Our neighbor needed help putting up his dinghy due to his davits being broken, so Maik helped him with that. Finally, when were ready to set sail around 5 pm, the sky went from beautiful blue to black. The lighting ahead us definitely changed our minds about leaving. Not too long after the wind picked up and it started raining big grape size drops of rain. The air got real cool and tornado and small craft advisory warnings were going off on the radio. We coupe up inside Hatchi, waiting for all of it to pass.
At around 8 pm, the storm passed. The weather looked good for us to travel, but our plans for Key Biscayne was out the window. We decided that we would head straight to Bimini. At first, the sail was decent. The waves were acceptable, but at some time during the night (after I took Kais and Lila to bed), things got pretty bad. We were making only slow progresses due to the waves and wind. Maik and his father stayed up the whole night.
We arrived to Bimini, Bahamas mid-day and took a slip at Bimini Big Game Marina and Resort. We were excited to set foot on land. The first thing we saw as we step on the dock were Sharks! This was super excited for all of us as we don’t encounter them every day, especially not right next to your boat, inside a marina. The water was crystal clear so we could see them swimming back and forth under the boats. Such a beautiful sight.

We took a day to explore Bimini on foot. We didn’t want to rent a golf cart because we wanted to take things in slowly. Walking felt more natural and made us feel as part of the island. We went to eat some conch at Joes’ Conch Shack, we purchased some freshly baked bread at Stuart’s Bakery, we went shopping for some eggs and sight seeing.
At Bimini Big Game Marina, we enjoyed the pool, the game area under the restaurant where you can play games like pool and had some drinks and ate at the restaurant. Kais made plenty of lady friends with his dance moves to the live band that was playing.

We had a beautiful time in Bimini, Bahamas but we could not stay long as our journey continues.
